JSW MG Motor India Hikes Prices Up to 2% From April as Input Cost Pressures Grip Industry

JSW MG Motor India on Monday announced a price increase of up to 2 per cent on selected models from 1 April 2026, becoming the latest carmaker to pass on the burden of rising production costs to buyers. According to the automaker, the revision will apply across the company's mainstream lineup. Its premium electric vehicles (EVs), the MG M9 and Cyberster, sold through the MG Select channel, will not be affected. 

The company said the adjustment is intended to partially offset mounting manufacturing expenses.

JSW MG Motor India's current range spans internal combustion engine and electric models, from the entry-level Comet EV, priced at ₹4.99 lakh plus a ₹3.2-per-kilometre battery subscription, to the top-of-the-range Gloster SUV at ₹38.33 lakh.

The announcement follows a similar move by Tata Motors, which earlier this month said it would raise commercial vehicle prices by up to 1.5 per cent from 1 April to partially counter rising commodity and input costs. 

The company's passenger vehicle arm had also flagged the possibility of a price increase in February. Managing Director and Chief Executive Shailesh Chandra said the business has been contending with elevated input costs for close to a year, driven largely by higher prices for precious metals and copper, which he said have had a material impact on the company's cost base.

The pricing pressure is not limited to a single manufacturer. Audi India has also confirmed a price increase of up to 2 per cent from 1 April, while Hyundai Motor India has signalled similar moves. Maruti Suzuki India is also reviewing a potential hike, with senior executive Partho Banerjee pointing to sharp rises in commodity costs, particularly precious metals, against a backdrop of continuing geopolitical uncertainty.
