Wholesale dispatches rose 41 percent year-on-year to 32,017 units, the best month in the automaker's decade-long India run.

Kia India dispatched 32,017 vehicles to dealers in September 2026, its highest monthly wholesale volume since entering the country, the company said. The figure marks a 41 percent rise over the 22,700 units sold in September last year, continuing a run of double-digit growth through the July-September quarter.

For the quarter, Kia reported wholesales of 89,259 units, up 38.5 percent from 64,443 units a year earlier. Cumulative sales for January-September stood at 253,008 units, a 22.5 percent increase over 206,582 units in the same period of 2025, according to the company.

The growth has been driven chiefly by the Seltos and Sonet, Kia's volume mainstays in the mid-size and sub-compact SUV segments respectively. The company said the Seltos, updated earlier this year, has averaged more than 10,000 units a month since its January launch, while the Sonet has held its own in a crowded sub-four-metre SUV category that includes rivals from Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Maruti Suzuki.

Kia is also widening its bets beyond SUVs. The Carens and Carens Clavis multi-purpose vehicles, along with the Carens Clavis EV, give the company a foothold in family mobility across both combustion and electric powertrains, while the Syros EV electric crossover, launched this year, has added to demand for its EV lineup. The recently introduced Sorento, sold in India with diesel and hybrid options, has drawn an encouraging initial response, the company said, as has the CNG variant of the Carens Clavis.

Taken together, the portfolio now spans petrol, diesel, CNG, hybrid, and electric powertrains — a spread that reflects how Indian carmakers are hedging against uneven adoption curves for electrification, particularly outside the metros where CNG and hybrids remain stronger sellers than battery electric vehicles.

On the EV side, Kia has sought to address range and resale anxieties through an Assured Buyback programme, a Battery-as-a-Service option, and a lifetime warranty on high-voltage batteries — ownership measures that have become increasingly common across the industry as manufacturers try to accelerate EV uptake beyond early adopters.

"Our strong performance in September and across the third quarter reflects the continued trust of our customers and the strength of Kia's evolving portfolio," said Atul Sood, senior vice-president, sales and marketing, Kia India. "The Seltos and Sonet continue to be key contributors to our growth, while the strong response to the Sorento and Syros EV reinforces our strategy of expanding into new segments and powertrain categories."

The numbers come at a time when India's passenger vehicle market has shown steady, if unspectacular, growth through the festive run-up, with SUVs continuing to account for the bulk of incremental demand. Kia's performance this quarter suggests it has managed to convert that preference into market share gains, even as competition in both the compact SUV and electric vehicle segments intensifies.
