Kia Syros EV Launched in India at ₹13.49 Lakh, Comes With Buyback and BaaS

Kia India has launched the Syros EV, its second mass-market electric vehicle, built at the company's Anantapur plant. The Syros EV is priced from ₹13.49 lakh for the 42 kWh variant and ₹16.99 lakh for the 51.4 kWh Extended Range version (both ex-showroom). The SUV goes on sale nationwide from July 30.

Beyond the sticker price, Kia has structured the launch around what it calls the two biggest deterrents to EV adoption in India: uncertain resale value and the upfront cost of a battery pack. To address the first, it is offering an Assured Buyback programme guaranteeing up to 80 per cent resale value after three years, for customers who buy within 60 days of launch, after which revised terms will apply. To address the second, a Battery-as-a-Service scheme separates the chassis and battery into distinct loans, bringing the entry price down to ₹7.99 lakh with battery usage billed at ₹3.3 per kilometre. A 15-year, unlimited-kilometre battery warranty for the first owner rounds off the ownership package.

"The Syros EV answers that by making electric mobility more accessible, without compromise," said Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO, Kia India, adding that the buyback and battery-lease offerings were designed to tackle "the key concerns that continue to influence EV adoption".

As for specifications, the 51.4 kWh variant returns an ARAI-certified range of 526 km, which Kia says is the first in its segment to cross 500 km, while the 42 kWh version manages 443 km. Both draw 171 PS from an NMC battery pack on Kia's K1 platform, and support DC fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent in 39 minutes. The Syros EV comes with Level 2 driver assistance across 16 functions, a 30-inch panoramic display, and six airbags as standard.

Charging infrastructure remains a persistent constraint for EV buyers in India, and Kia is leaning on its K-Charge network — aggregating over 20,300 charging points from 23 operators — alongside 129 dealerships fitted with DC fast chargers and 275 EV-ready workshops.

The Syros EV enters a mass-premium electric SUV segment that has grown crowded over the past two years, with rivals from Tata Motors, Mahindra and Hyundai competing largely on range and price. Kia's ownership-focused pitch — leasing the battery rather than selling it outright, and underwriting resale value directly — marks a shift from the specification-led contests that have defined the segment so far, and will test whether Indian buyers respond more readily to reduced ownership risk than to range numbers alone.
