The Sonet facelift now has a new design and new features. But more importantly, it also gets ADAS.
The Sonet facelift made its global debut in India and how! The subcompact SUV from Kia gets a refreshed design, a redesigned interior, a new gearbox, some new features and more importantly, it now gets ADAS!
Kia has made the most changes to the Sonet cosmetically. It gets a new grille, new LED headlamps with C-shaped LED daytime running lamps and a new front bumper. In profile, the Sonet only gets a new design for the alloy wheels. While it still gets a panel connecting the tail lights, it is now a light bar that is similar to what can be seen on the Hyundai Venue.
Inside, the Sonet facelift gets new upholstery and new buttons for climate control. It now gets a Sage Green interior in the X Line trim, Black and White interior in the GT Line and Black and Brown interior in the top-spec Tech Line trim. In terms of features, the Sonet now gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that was also seen on the Seltos facelift. While it still gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, it now also has a 360-degree camera.
The Sonet now also gets advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), making it the third Kia in India to get the safety system. The Sonet gets systems like forward collision warning, forward collision avoidance assist, leading vehicle departure warning, lane keep assist and more.
Under the hood, the Sonet retains the same powertrain options as before barring one change. It gets a 118 bhp, 172 Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, 82 bhp, 115 Nm, 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 114 bhp, 250 Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the turbo-petrol gets a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The diesel engine gets the same 6-speed iMT introduced earlier this year along with the 6-speed automatic gearbox. However, it also sees the reintroduction of a 6-speed manual gearbox with the diesel engine.
Currently, the Sonet is priced between ₹7.79 lakh and ₹14.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India). While Kia has yet to announce the prices, we expect it to be priced slightly higher. Kia will open bookings for the new Sonet on December 20 while the prices will be announced in January 2024.
