Which is the more appropriately priced bike?
After making quite the splash at the India Bike Week 2024, the new-gen KTM 390 Adventure has finally launched in our market. Besides looking completely different, the bike has debuted with several significant upgrades, which make it a proper reckoner in the sub-500 cc ADV space. But at ₹3.68 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the new KTM 390 Adventure is not an affordable affair at all, especially when you compare it with its arch-rival, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.
Both bikes are available as single trims, but the KTM 390 Adventure gets just two colour options – both are available at the same price, though. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is available with five colour options at different price levels. It starts from ₹2.85 lakh with the base Kaza Brown option, followed by the Slate Poppy, Himalayan Salt and Kamet White options priced at ₹2.93 lakh, while the Hanle Black option will set you back by ₹2.98 lakh (all ex-showroom prices, Chennai). This helps the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 broaden its accessibility, hence giving customers the benefit of options.
But where the new KTM 390 Adventure edges past the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is with its features list. From cruise control to cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, bidirectional quickshifter, and even a fully adjustable suspension set up. On the contrary, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 gets just four riding modes, all-LED lighting, cornering ABS and traction control.
So, feature-wise, while the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 might not be as spruced up as the KTM 390 Adventure, it still holds its ground as a solid alternative proposition. The Sherpa 450 engine is torquey and exciting enough for highway tours. Its suspension setup is the most comfortable affair that we have experienced on any ADV bike now. But the KTM 390 Adventure packs in a more powerful engine, gets better hardware components, and all the crucial features that justify its premiumness.
