It might not feel quite as hardcore and daunting.
As we wait to ride the new KTM 390 Enduro R, there is something that we need to clear off before our review drops on the website. The bike that we will get in India is not the international-spec version. We will get a slightly compromised and yet more promising off-roader than any adventure motorcycle on sale. So here are the differences:
The Enduro R’s WP Apex suspension on the international-spec model gets 230 mm of travel, which is not the case on the India-spec bike. We will continue to get adjustable suspension but the travel is lesser: 200 mm at the front and 205 mm at the rear. These are the same components as the new 390 Adventure. Hence, the bike will not be so tall.
Due to the lesser travel, the seat height has dramatically dropped down from 890 mm to 860 mm. Furthermore, the ground clearance is also not 272 mm but 253 mm. One of the reasons for the Enduro R to still be a bit taller than the Adventure is the larger 18-inch rear wheel with a chunkier dual-purpose tyre. Hence, the overall rolling circumference at the rear is larger and the bike would feel taller.
While the tyre sizes remain the same, the India-spec bike gets Mitas Enduro Trail+ semi-knobbies. This shouldn’t be much of an issue as Mitas is one of the most preferred off-roader tyre makers in the world and these would be made by Reise Moto in India itself.
The rest of the motorcycle remains identical. It still has the 399 cc mill with 45.37 bhp and 39 Nm on tap with two riding modes to alter the experience. We shall be spilling the beans on the bike on April 11 at 6 pm. So stick around to find out whether it feels like a compromise or it is something that we should be thankful for.
