Being an “R” trim model, the new KTM 890 Adventure R gets the full spectrum of adjustability options.
While we’re still reeling from the unveiling of the all-new KTM 390 Adventure R at EICMA 2024 in Milan – KTM India today launched its bigger middleweight sibling, the 890 Adventure R – priced at ₹15.80 lakh. The rally-inspired adventure motorcycle joins the company's impressive stable, which includes the flagship 1390 Super Duke R, 890 Duke R, and 1290 Super Adventure R, as one of the big premium bikes from Team Orange.
Drawing inspiration from KTM's successful rally racing heritage, particularly the KTM 450 Rally, the current iteration of the 890 Adventure R was launched last year across global markets. It arrived with significant updates all of which were focused on enhancing its off-road capability and long-distance touring comfort. The bodywork was also revised to accommodate a larger front fairing and windscreen. But one of the biggest talking points of the 890 Adventure R is its sophisticated suspension package, which comprises a fully-adjustable WP XPLOR fork and PDS monoshock.
Powering the KTM Adventure R is the same 889 cc, parallel-twin engine from the 890 Duke R. However, in the ADV it has been retuned to produce 103 bhp and 100 Nm. The 6-speed gearbox has remained the same, and it is available with bidirectional quickshifter and assist and slipper clutch assist as standard.
The technology suite is also quite substantial, with the motorcycle now sporting a 5-inch TFT display equipped with USB-C connectivity. This unit is Bluetooth compatible and supports the usual smattering of turn-by-turn navigation, music controls and call/SMS alerts. Safety features have been bolstered with a next-generation ABS control unit that works in conjunction with an IMU to optimise braking performance across various riding conditions.
The arrival of the KTM 890 Adventure R in India marks a significant expansion of KTM's adventure touring segment. It offers enthusiasts a middle-weight option that bridges the gap between the brand's street-focused Duke series and the flagship Adventure models. It will compete against the BMW F 900 GS, Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE, Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro, and Ducati Desert X—just to name a few.
