The iPhone 15 series launch is nearing, with Apple confirming its next event for 12 September. Now, esteemed Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo has claimed the iPhone 15 Pro models will be lighter than their predecessors thanks to a titanium frame. However, he says iPhone 15 Pro Max production is running behind schedule, meaning it will hit shelves last.
The Pro and Pro Max are expected to be the first iPhones with a titanium body instead of stainless steel. This should make them more durable yet lighter, as titanium has less density than steel.
These Pro models will also sport new colours - blue, titanium grey instead of gold, and possibly crimson. The grey replaces gold since titanium provides enough premium feel. Per Kuo, production issues with stacked CIS panel batteries held up the Pro Max. Its mass production also started late. Resolving it meant compromising standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus shipments. Similar fixes were made for battery and frame problems.
Cancelling the capacitive home button also posed timeline challenges for the titanium frame. Display troubles were mitigated by adjusting supplier ratios, with Samsung again getting most orders after BOE failed light bleed tests.
In summary, expect lighter yet stronger iPhone 15 Pro models thanks to titanium. But the largest Pro Max may see constrained supply at launch due to production delays.
