Lamborghini continues to push the envelope in the high-performance realm with the unveiling of the all-new Temerario at Monterey Car Week 2024. According to Lamborghini, Temerario is more than just a car; it represents a bold leap into the future. It is the second model in Lamborghini’s High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) lineup, following the Revuelto, and finalising the hybrid transformation of their range alongside the Urus SE.
The Temerario’s hybrid powertrain combines a completely new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors, producing a staggering total of 906 bhp. The internal combustion engine is capable of revving up to 10,000 rpm, a feat unmatched by any production V8 in its class. Designed from scratch in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the V8 delivers peak power at 9,000 rpm, with torque reaching 730 Nm between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm.
This engine is paired with an axial flow electric motor positioned between the V8 and the gearbox, which not only boosts low-end torque but also smooths out gear transitions by acting as a “torque gap filler.” The front axle is driven by two additional electric motors, giving the car all-wheel-drive capability and the ability to drive in full-electric mode when desired. The result? A top speed of over 340 kmph and a blistering 0-100 kmph time of just 2.7 seconds.
The Temerario’s design is unmistakably Lamborghini. From the aggressive shark-nose front to the hexagonal motifs that dominate the lighting and exhaust design, every aspect of the car is an evolution of Lamborghini’s signature aesthetic. The aerodynamic efficiency has been refined to new heights, with air channels integrated into the car’s lines to optimise cooling and downforce. The new hexagonal daytime running lights, a design hallmark that extends to the side intakes and taillights, are now more distinct and functional than ever before.
The Temerario’s body is both lightweight and rigid, thanks to a newly developed aluminium chassis crafted from a high-strength alloy. This advanced architecture not only improves driving dynamics but also increases interior space, making the car more comfortable and practical for everyday use—a rarity in the supercar segment.
Lamborghini has gone to great lengths to ensure that the hybrid powertrain delivers an emotive, signature sound. The flat-plane crankshaft, typical of racing engines, gives the V8 a unique high-revving character.
The car’s driving modes—Città, Strada, Sport, and Corsa—each offer distinct acoustic profiles. In urban Città mode, the electric motors deliver a quiet, refined sound for zero-emissions driving. In the aggressive Corsa mode, the car unleashes a high-frequency roar as it approaches 10,000 rpm.
The interior of the Temerario features Lamborghini’s new “Pilot Interaction” interface with a suite of digital displays designed to enhance the driving experience. The main 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is complemented by an 8.4-inch central touchscreen and a 9.1-inch display for the front passenger, making the car as functional as it is fast.
Premium materials like carbon fibre, leather, and Dinamica suede are used throughout the cabin, with customisation options allowing owners to tailor the interior to their preferences. The new spaceframe chassis not only increases headroom and legroom but also offers better visibility, making the Temerario more practical without sacrificing its supercar soul.
The Temerario’s battery is a compact yet powerful 3.8 kWh unit, positioned in the central tunnel to maintain a low centre of gravity. It can fast charge time of 30 minutes. Lamborghini is offering the Temerario in two colours, Blu Marinus and Verde Mercurius.
