Leapmotor Unveils B03 Electric Hatchback for Europe as India Entry Stays Undated

The Stellantis-backed brand's new B-segment hatchback debuted at the Paris Motor Show, even as its promised Indian launch remains without a date more than a year after it was announced.

For Indian readers, the relevance lies less in the B03 itself and more in what it signals about Leapmotor's expanding product pipeline.

Leapmotor has unveiled the B03, a B-segment electric hatchback, at the Paris Motor Show, giving the Stellantis-backed brand its first showing of the car outside China. Leapmotor International, the joint venture between Stellantis and the Chinese EV maker, confirmed the B03 will go on sale in Britain from early 2027, extending a European line-up that has grown steadily since launch while India, where the brand was announced in April 2025, still awaits a confirmed model and date.

The B03 is powered by a 53kWh battery offering up to 242 miles of WLTP range, paired with a 145kW (194bhp) front-mounted motor producing 200Nm of torque. Leapmotor says the car accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds. DC rapid charging at up to 133kW allows a 10-80 per cent top-up in 21 minutes, while an onboard heat pump and vehicle-to-load capability address range anxiety in cold weather and off-board power needs respectively — practical additions for a car pitched as everyday urban transport rather than a halo product.

At 4,175mm long with a 2,605mm wheelbase, the B03 sits in supermini territory, with boot capacity ranging from 405 litres to 1,305 litres with the rear seats folded — figures Leapmotor positions against rivals such as the Volkswagen ID. Polo and Renault 5. It is the second model on the company's Compact Electric Platform, following the B03X crossover, and joins the T03, B05, B10 and C10 in a lineup aimed squarely at Europe's increasingly competitive affordable-EV segment. No UK pricing has been announced.

Leapmotor International, 51 per cent owned by Stellantis and 49 per cent by Leapmotor, began European sales in September 2024 and entered the UK in March 2025. The company says it now has more than 90 UK retailers, with a target of over 100 by the end of 2026.

For Indian readers, the relevance lies less in the B03 itself and more in what it signals about Leapmotor's expanding product pipeline — one Stellantis has promised, but not yet delivered, to India. Stellantis India announced Leapmotor's entry in April 2025, with plans reportedly built around CKD assembly and sales through existing Jeep and Citroën showrooms. A first model was expected within FY2026-27, and Leapmotor filed a design patent for its B10 SUV in India in April this year, though the company has cautioned that a patent filing does not confirm a launch. No B03 plan for India has been disclosed.

Stellantis has meanwhile deepened its India commitment elsewhere, taking full ownership of its Tamil Nadu plant from partner CK Birla in September and targeting a rise in output to over 43,000 units by 2028. Whether that expanding manufacturing base eventually extends to a Leapmotor model remains, for now, an open question.
