Mahindra Teases New Thar Ahead of Today's Launch

In the run-up to the unveiling of the new three-door Thar, Mahindra's teaser campaign has leaned heavily on geography rather than glossy studio shots. One image circulated on social media carried two sets of coordinates rather than a picture of the car in full: 26.28°N, 73.02°E, pointing to Jodhpur itself, the desert city after which the Thar takes its name and the venue for today's event; and 19.7°N, 73.55°E, which corresponds to the Igatpuri belt in Maharashtra, where Mahindra's manufacturing operations for the SUV are based. The pairing was a fairly clever way of tying the vehicle's spirit of the desert to its factory origins, without giving away a single design detail.

Even so, additional teasers plus spy shots of test mules over recent months have given a fairly clear idea of what to expect. The update is widely tipped to bring a redesigned front end borrowing heavily from the five-door Thar Roxx, including circular projector LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, a reworked grille and revised bumpers. The cabin is expected to gain a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and possibly 360-degree cameras, alongside features already on the outgoing model such as the 10.25-inch touchscreen and wireless smartphone connectivity.

Mechanically, few surprises are anticipated. The existing engine range — a 1.5-litre diesel, 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol — is likely to continue, paired with six-speed manual or torque-converter automatic gearboxes across rear- and four-wheel-drive layouts.

The current Thar three-door is priced between roughly Rs 10.32 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom, and industry watchers expect the updated model to command a modest premium once variant-wise pricing is announced today. This marks the second update to the current-generation Thar, which first arrived in 2020 and was previously refreshed in 2025.
