Mahindra has clarified that the launch will not happen this year
There have been a host of media reports suggesting that the Mahindra Thar 5-door will make its global debut in Cape Town, South Africa on August 15, 2023. Mahindra, however, has now clarified that the launch of the vehicle will only take place next year. Mahindra had announced earlier that the Thar 5-door will be launched in India in 2024 and now the global unveil is more than a month away. The company has taken its time with the 5-door version of the Thar and now we wait to see how well that time was utilised for the development of the SUV.
Mahindra, in a statement about the Thar 5-door being launched on August 15 said, "We would like to clarify that the launch is not scheduled for this year. During the recently concluded Quarter results media interaction, we confirmed that the launch of the Thar 5-door is scheduled for 2024."
The Thar 5-door, will not be the only 5-door off-roader in the country because it was very recently that Maruti Suzuki launched the 5-door Jimny, which was exclusively made for the Indian market. India will be the first market for the 5-door Thar as well and it will get two additional doors, along with a longer wheelbase as well.
On the engines front, the 2-litre turbocharged petrol and the 2.2-litre diesel engines will be retained and it is unlikely that there will be any bump in power figures. The 5-door Thar has been caught testing in India on multiple occasions and finally we will get to see it in the flesh.
