Mahindra Thar Teased Again; Shows New Body-Coloured Grille

With the launch of the Thar Roxx nearing, Mahindra has shared more images of the rugged 5-door SUV. While all previous teasers of the Thar Roxx showed it in a Black colour, the new ones show it in a White colour. 

The new images reveal a very interesting detail. While we already knew the Thar Roxx would get a different design for the grille compared to the Thar, the new snapshots show that it will get a body-coloured grille. The other key information revealed is the design of the C-pillar. Unlike the Thar, the Thar Roxx will get a slanted design that eats up some of the rear quarter windows. Interestingly, the frame above the rear doors edges into the blacked-out roof, which isn’t the case with the front doors. 

Other design details include a ‘Thar’ inscription on the ORVMs, exposed door hinges, exposed bonnet locks, a slightly redesigned bumper, the rear door handles on the C-pillar and a new design for the alloy wheels. 

Previously released teasers have hinted that the Thar Roxx will get a virtual instrument cluster, Harmon Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, ventilated front seats and more. 

While Mahindra hasn’t revealed any powertrain specifications yet, the Thar Roxx is expected to get the same 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the Thar. It will get a 4x4 drivetrain but if it will get the rear-wheel drive configuration remains to be seen. 

The Thar Roxx will primarily rival the Force Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. However, if it gets the rear-wheel drive configuration, it could also see competition from the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and other such compact SUVs.
