Digital representations of real-world road conditions, plus location intelligence and model-based simulation workflows, will help accelerate development and reduce costs.
MapmyIndia, best known for its digital maps, has partnered with software firm MathWorks. With MapmyIndia HD maps integrated into MathWorks’ MATLAB, Simulink, and RoadRunner software, automotive engineers will be able to design, simulate, test, and validate ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) adapted for Indian roads and conditions.
The partnership brings MapmyIndia’s real-life road and traffic data to MathWorks’ development tools, allowing the creation of digital twins of Indian cities. This can help speed up ADAS simulations in complex environments with diverse traffic conditions.
System validation can begin earlier in the software development workflow. A model-based design environment will reflect real-world traffic density with different types of vehicles and obstacles, as well as inconsistent lane usage, diverse road conditions, and rapidly changing traffic flow patterns. MapmyIndia HD maps will let engineers work with lane-level road geometry, traffic controls, detailed road attributes, and India-specific features such as speed breakers, potholes, and faded lane markings.
This level of accuracy in digital representations of real-world road conditions, plus the combination of location intelligence and model-based simulation workflows will help automotive engineering teams accelerate development and reduce the costs of deployment for ADAS solutions developed specifically for the Indian market, according to both companies.
Sapna Ahuja, President, Automotive Business and Chief Operating Officer, MapmyIndia Mappls, said “India's roads present some of the world's most complex and dynamic driving environments. Developing ADAS solutions for these conditions requires far more than adapting models built for structured traffic ecosystems. MapmyIndia's HD maps capture the scale and complexity of Indian roads with accuracy and detail”.
“As automotive teams expand ADAS development for India, virtual validation is becoming essential to evaluate system performance across diverse driving conditions,” said Vijayalayan R, Senior Manager – Automotive, MathWorks.
