The Fronx marked the return of the Boosterjet engine in India
Maruti Suzuki has initiated exports of the Fronx from India. The first batch of 556 vehicles was shipped from Mundra, Mumbai and Pipavav Ports to destinations in Latin America, Middle East and Africa. The Fronx was launched in India in April this year and there has been a good amount of demand from the domestic market for now. The company had recently said, that it had a backlog of more than 20,000 units and it is looking to ramp up production of the car.
The Fronx, as odd as the name sounds, embodies Maruti Suzuki’s ‘Frontier Next’ philosophy. The launch of the Fronx also maked the return of the 1-litre Boosterjet engine and the demand for this turbo-petrol model has been a steady one. The preference, though, has been for the naturally aspirated variants. According to the company, the Boosterjet variants account for 13 per cent of the overall sales of the Fronx and that’s also because, it attracts a premium price tag, close to Ra. 1 lakh more than its naturally aspirated cousin.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “With support from our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan we have expanded our portfolio and are now exporting to more markets. The customers of Fronx in India can feel good that their much-loved vehicle will also become the choice of customers globally.”
Maruti Suzuki exports a who bunch of cars from India and the Fronx is the latest to join this bandwagon.
