The first consignment of over 1,600 Fronx left for Japan from Gujarat’s Pipavav port.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited commenced the export of its ‘Made-in-India’ Fronx to Japan. Fronx is the first SUV from Maruti Suzuki and the second model after the Baleno to be exported to Japan. Manufactured at Maruti’s Gujarat plant, the Fronx will be introduced in the Japanese market later this year. The first consignment of over 1,600 Fronx left for Japan from Gujarat’s Pipavav port. Maruti says it will launch the Fronx in Japan with the same name.

Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Our export to Japan is a testament to Maruti Suzuki’s capability to manufacture world-class vehicles that exemplify cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, internationally recognized safety, and quality standards. It underscores our strong commitment to excellence.”
Maruti Suzuki shipped over 2.8 lakh units to over 100 countries in FY 2023-24. The company has a 42 per cent share in the exports of passenger vehicles from the country. Maruti Suzuki exported a record 70,560 units in Q1 FY 2024-25, the highest ever in any Q1 of the company.
The made-in-India Fronx also retails in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. The Fronx in Mexico costs 4,29,990 Mexican pesos (₹21 lakh approx..) and comes with only a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine. In India, Maruti offers the Fronx with a 1.0-litre boosterjet petrol engine along with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, made available only with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Fronx with the turbocharged motor is not exported to other countries yet. Currently in India, the turbo engine variant accounts for more than 13 per cent of the overall sales of the Fronx. The company has been selling over 10,000 units of the Fronx every month, since the launch of the car in April and it has been one of the top 5 selling SUVs in the country in 2023.
