Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift Powertrains, Variant Lineup Revealed Ahead of July 24 Launch

Maruti Suzuki's much-awaited Brezza facelift has had its powertrain lineup and variant structure confirmed through a homologation document filed under AIS-197, ahead of its official unveiling on 24 July. The filing, tied to the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), lists three distinct powertrain families for the updated subcompact SUV, offering buyers considerably more choice than before.

The biggest change under the bonnet is the addition of a new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, a first for the Brezza. According to reports, this three-cylinder unit is expected to produce around 108 bhp and 170Nm, and will be offered exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox. The engine is likely to be shared with the Fronx Turbo, though it may be tuned slightly differently to suit the Brezza's character. 

The tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15C petrol engine continues as the mainstay of the range, producing a familiar 100 bhp and 139Nm. However, there is a notable upgrade to the transmission options: the previous five-speed manual gearbox has been replaced by a six-speed unit, while the six-speed torque-converter automatic carries over. This brings the Brezza's manual transmission up to speed with segment rivals.

As per the document, the variant spread differs across the three powertrain options. The 1.5-litre manual and the 1.0-litre turbo manual are both offered across the full LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI+ trims. The 1.5-litre automatic, however, skips the base LXI trim altogether, being offered only in VXI, ZXI and ZXI+ guises.

The CNG variant, though not detailed in this particular filing, is expected to continue with the 1.5-litre engine.

Beyond the mechanical changes, the Brezza facelift has been refreshed with updates to the exterior and interior. A refreshed cabin with a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, up from the current 9-inch unit, along with ventilated seats, ambient lighting and an air purifier is on the cards. 

Exterior updates, from what we can tell, include a reworked front fascia, revised alloy wheel design, and updated bumpers.
