Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) in India, called the e Vitara. While the e Vitara already made its global debut as a Suzuki model in November last year, it will come to India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It remains to be seen if Maruti Suzuki will make any cosmetic or mechanical changes compared to the global model but it seems unlikely that it will happen.
Ahead of its launch in India, Maruti Suzuki has released another teaser for the e Vitara which shows bits of the exterior and interior of the upcoming electric SUV. The teaser shows that the e Vitara will get Y-shaped LED DRLs and taillamps, similar to the global-spec model. The e Vitara will also get a single-pane sunroof.
The teasers also show bits of the interior of the e Vitara, i.e., only the centre console is visible in the teaser. The e Vitara will get two, squarish cupholders as well as a rotary knob for the drive selector. There are four buttons flanking the drive selector – single-pedal driving, snow mode, and drive mode. The fourth button seems to be a blank. Behind the drive selector are the buttons for the electronic parking brake and auto hold.
The e Vitara’s is expected to come with two battery packs, sourced from BYD’s subsidiary, FinDreams. One will be a 49 kWh battery pack with 2WD that produces 142 bhp and 189 Nm. The larger, 61 kWh battery pack will be available with 2WD and 4WD drivetrains with the former producing 172 bhp and 189 Nm, while the latter churns out 181 bhp and 300 Nm (combined). Official range figures are yet to be announced, even for the global-spec model.
As mentioned earlier, Maruti Suzuki will debut the e Vitara in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, with a launch likely later this year and it is expected to be priced north of ₹20 lakh. Once launched, it will rival the likes of the upcoming Hyundai Creta Electric as well as the Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv.ev and MG ZS EV.
