Maruti Suzuki has filed a patent for the eWX electric vehicle in India. Suzuki showcased the small EV as a concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. There is a possibility that Maruti Suzuki could launch the eWX in India as its second EV offering, following the launch of the eVX sometime next year.
The eWX is a small electric vehicle that adheres to the Kei car regulations in Japan. The regulations require the car to be under 3.4 m in length. So, the eWX concept measures 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width and 1,620 mm in height. For reference, the eWX is shorter than the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (3,565 mm) but longer than the MG Comet (2,974 mm).
The patent image of the eWX shows it shares the same design as the concept shown in Tokyo last year. The eWX can be seen with the same boxy design language with a closed-off grille, oval-shaped LED headlamps, the same design for the alloy wheels and an oval-shaped greenhouse. Interestingly, the eWX’s windshield that extends onto the roof, which should help let more light into the cabin.
At the Japan Mobility Show, Suzuki also showcased the interior of the eWX. It has a very minimalistic design with two large screens integrated into the dashboard, a two-spoke steering wheel and switchgear on the central armrest.
Suzuki hasn’t divulged any information regarding the powertrain of the eWX apart from its range. The eWX can do up to 230 km on a single charge (claimed). When the eWX is launched, it should rival the likes of the MG Comet, Tata Tiago.ev and Citroën ë-C3.
