Maruti Suzuki India Limited has sold 10 lakh of its cars equipped with automatic transmissions in the country. The company also revealed that 65 per cent of its sales come from automatic variants, offered in 16 models. At present, the company employs four automatic units: Auto Gear Shift (AGS), 4-speed Automatic Transmission (AT), 6-speed AT, and e-CVT. Additionally, the share of AT models accounts for 27 per cent of total automatic sales, while the hybrid e-CVT unit constitutes about 8 per cent of the company’s automatic sales.
Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, MSIL, said, “Maruti’s automatic car sales have been on the rise constantly. We are already close to touching the one lakh automatic vehicle sales mark for FY23-24, as we stand in the middle of the financial year. This is truly a tremendous feat for us.”
According to the company, NEXA accounts for about 58 per cent of automatic car sales, while Arena contributes about 42 per cent. Moreover, it is worth noting that NEXA customers tend to prefer high-end automatic variants, while Arena customers prefer mid-variants when making a purchase decision.
Maruti Suzuki India offers the Alto K-10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Fronx with 5-speed AGS units while 4-speed automatic transmission handles duty on the Jimny and Ciaz. The newer 6-speed automatic gearbox is available on the Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and Grand Vitara, while the e-CVT is exclusively available in the strong hybrid models of the Grand Vitara and the Invicto MPV.
