Maruti Suzuki began deliveries of its latest launch, the Victoris, on September 22, contributing to the record figure.
Maruti Suzuki says it delivered 1.65 lakh new cars to customers in the first eight days of the Navratri festive period, a new record for the company. That number is projected to cross 2 lakhs over the entire nine-day stretch, which ends today. Moreover, with 3.5 lakh bookings received during this auspicious time, even more cars will be delivered in the coming weeks and months.
According to the company, shipping cars from its manufacturing plants to customers' locations is a bigger challenge than keeping up with production demand.
The demand is largely credited to the Government of India's recent move to lower GST rates for most categories of passenger vehicles. Immediately following the announcement, car manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki announced in quick succession that they would commit to passing on the full benefits to buyers, significantly reducing costs across multiple popular car and bike categories. Lower prices kicked in on September 22, timed to coincide with the beginning of India's festive season.
In a statement, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki said "It is all because of the initiative taken by our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji on GST rate cut that the industry is witnessing strong growth. At Maruti Suzuki, we recorded the highest ever retail sales during the first 8 days of Navratri with 1.65 lakh vehicles delivered — the best festive performance in the last 10 years. By end of this Navratri period, we are confident of touching the magical 2 lakh mark in deliveries. Overall, we have received close to 3.5 lakh bookings, with nearly 2.5 lakh pending bookings. The challenge before us is logistics to transport such large volumes, but we are making every effort to serve our customers at the earliest."
However, this news comes against the backdrop of an 8.3 percent dip in domestic sales for India's largest carmaker this September, at 1,35,711 units in September 2025, down YoY from 1,48,061 units in September 2024. Thanks to strong exports though, the total number of units sold by Maruti Suzuki in September stands at 1,89,665 which is a 2.7 percent year-on-year increase from 1,84,727 in the same month last year. The 42,204 units exported in September represents an all-time high for Maruti Suzuki, jumping 52.2 percent YoY. Total exports crossed 2.1 lakh units in the first half of the current financial year.
Compact cars continue to see strong demand with 66,882 units sold compared to 60,480 units in September 2024. In contrast, the utility vehicle segment recorded 48,695 units in September 2025, down 61,549 units YoY, despite the popularity of the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, and newly launched Victoris, largely thanks to intense competition.
