Maserati will launch the ICE-powered GranTurismo and its EV version before the end of next year.
Along the sidelines of confirming the India launch of the Grecale SUV, Maserati has also confirmed that it will launch the GranTurismo and its all-electric version, the GranTurismo Folgore, in India in 2024. The ICE-powered GranTurismo will launch in India first and will reach here in the second quarter of 2024. The Folgore EV is expected to be launched before the end of 2024.
The GranTurismo, now in its second generation, has more of an evolutionary than revolutionary design. It still has a low-slung design with a long bonnet and a cab-back design. Up front, the nose gets a prominent Maserati ‘Trident’ logo in the oval-shaped grille, flanked by air intakes and vertical headlights. At the rear, it gets slim taillights and quad exhausts in the bumpers. The Folgore also shares the same overall design but has slightly different bumpers and Folgore badging.
Inside, the cabin is more revolutionary than evolutionary. The physical controls from the dashboard have been replaced by two touchscreens – a 12.3-inch unit for the infotainment system and an 8.8-inch unit for the HVAC controls. The only physical controls remaining in the car are on the multi-function steering wheel, behind which is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The quintessential analogue watch found on the dashboard of many Maseratis has been replaced by a configurable, round digital display.
Under the hood, the GranTurismo gets the same 3.0-litre Nettuno V6 petrol engine as the MC20 supercar. The ICE GranTurismo comes in two variants – Modena and Trofeo – and both get a different state of tune for the V6 engine and all-wheel drive. In the Modena, it produces 483 bhp and 600 Nm, and is claimed to have a 0-100 kmph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 302 kmph. In the Trofeo, it produces 542 bhp and 650 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 kmph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 320 kmph. It remains to be seen if both variants will make it to Indian shores.
The GranTurismo Folgore gets a 92.5 kWh battery pack that Maserati claims gives it a range of up to 450 km on a single charge. The Folgore also gets a triple-motor setup producing 751 bhp and 1,350 Nm, giving it a 0-100 kmph time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 325 kmph (both claimed).
While there is no information on the pricing of the new GranTurismo, expect the range to start north of ₹2.5 crore (ex-showroom, India). When launched, the ICE GranTurismo will compete with the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage, Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari Roma and Porsche 911. The Folgore currently does not have any direct rivals but it could face some competition with the Porsche Taycan, Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 and Audi RS e-tron GT.
