Here’s everything you need to know about the high-performance Mercedes E-Class variant that’s launching in India tomorrow.

Mercedes will launch its high-performance AMG E 53 PHEV in India tomorrow, July 23, 2026. Unlike the standard E-Class sedan, which is sold in India in its long-wheelbase avatar, the E 53 is built upon the short-wheelbase E-Class.

Under the bonnet, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 features a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor integrated directly into the nine-speed automatic transmission. In its standard configuration, the combined hybrid setup produces a peak output of 577 bhp and 750 Nm of torque, delivering power to all four wheels through the brand's 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.

When equipped with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, the output briefly increases to 604 bhp in Race Start mode, allowing the performance sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h.

The hybrid architecture relies on a 21.2 kWh usable battery pack that supports an all-electric driving range of over 100 km at speeds up to 140 km/h. The battery can be replenished using an 11 kW onboard AC charger, alongside optional 60 kW DC fast-charging capability capable of completing a 10-80% charge in approximately 20 minutes.

To manage the added weight and higher performance demands, the vehicle incorporates structural chassis bracing, an 11 mm wider front track, adaptive damping suspension, and recalibrated brakes engineered to work alongside regenerative braking.

Visually, the AMG E 53 distinguishes itself from the regular E-Class through an illuminated AMG-specific front grille, flared front fenders, a sculpted front bumper with enlarged air intakes, and AMG side skirts. The rear profile receives a boot-lid spoiler, a prominent diffuser element, and quad round exhaust outlets.

Inside, the cabin features electrically adjustable AMG sports seats, an AMG performance steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.4-inch central touchscreen running AMG-specific telemetry menus. Additional equipment includes a Burmester audio system, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera system, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Upon its arrival, the car model will compete against high-performance luxury sedans including the BMW M5 and the Porsche Panamera.
