The latest-gen S-Class gets its first performance version, while the Maybach GLS gets a mild facelift.
Mercedes-Benz has launched two new luxury vehicles in India, the AMG S 63 E Performance and the Maybach GLS 600 facelift. The former is priced at ₹3.30 crore and the latter is priced at ₹3.35 crore (both ex-showroom, India).
The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is available in two versions – the standard model and the Edition 1. The latter will be available in limited numbers and gets exclusive cosmetic elements such as an Alpine Grey colour option, 21-inch alloy wheels and red contrast stitching inside as well as the AMG Exterior Night Package. With the Night Package, the S-Class AMG gets its front and rear bumper trims, exhaust tips, ORVMs and window surrounds finished either in dark chrome or gloss black.
The AMG S 63 E Performance also gets the MBUX infotainment system with hybrid-specific displays and functions. With this system, the digital instrument cluster has Race and Supersport display themes with the latter displaying a variety of content in a vertical format. The S-Class AMG also gets an AMG Performance steering wheel with AMG drive unit buttons, diamond stitching for the seats and AMG-specific carbon fibre trim elements.
Under the hood, the AMG gets a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine churning out 791 bhp and 1430 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes-AMG claims the S-Class can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.3 seconds and its top speed is limited to 250 kmph. The AMG S-Class also gets AMG Ride Control+ suspension that has automatic level control air suspension as well as adaptive damping. At speeds over 120 kmph, the suspension lowers the S-Class by 10 mm.
The most luxurious version of the GLS now gets a facelift in India. It gets Maybach’s signature grille in chrome finish, new front and rear bumpers, refreshed headlamps and taillamps along with a new design for the alloy wheels. As always, the Maybach GLS 600 can be configured with dual-tone paint options and 23-inch monoblock alloy wheels.
Inside, the Maybach GLS gets a Burmester-tuned audio system, level 2 ADAS, a new steering wheel design and new AC vents. It also gets the latest generation of the MBUX infotainment system. Other features in the Maybach GLS include active body control, keyless entry and keyless go, parking assist and more.
The Maybach GLS 600 is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that produces 550 bhp and 730 Nm. The engine is assisted by a mild hybrid system that gives it a boost of 21 bhp and 250 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes claims the Maybach GLS 600 can do the 0-100 kmph run in 4.2 seconds and its top speed is limited to 250 kmph.
