The luxury EV arm of JSW MG Motor India brings its pay-per-kilometre battery rental model to the Cyberster roadster and M9 limousine, cutting upfront prices by nearly ₹10 lakh.
MG SELECT, the luxury retail channel of JSW MG Motor India, has extended its Battery-as-a-Service programme to the MG Cyberster and MG M9, marking the first time the pay-per-kilometre ownership model has been offered on vehicles in the country's luxury electric segment. Under the scheme announced on 17 September, the Cyberster is priced at ₹72.49 lakh with a battery rental of ₹8 per km, while the M9 is available at ₹69.99 lakh on the same rental terms.
The arrangement lowers the upfront cost of both vehicles by roughly ₹10 lakh compared with their outright prices, shifting a portion of the cost from the point of purchase to ongoing usage. Buyers pay separately for the battery based on distance driven rather than owning it outright with the car.
The move builds on a model MG pioneered in India with the Windsor in September 2024, and later extended to the Comet EV and ZS EV. Applying it to the Cyberster and M9 takes the concept, until now confined to mass-market models, into the premium end of the electric line-up for the first time.
The Cyberster, a two-seat electric roadster styled after the classic MGB, uses a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout producing 510 PS and 725 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3.2 seconds. The M9, positioned as an executive limousine, pairs a lounge-style cabin with 16-way adjustable Presidential Seats, an 8-mode massage function and a yacht-inspired dual sunroof, and is powered by a 90 kWh battery pack. MG says the M9 carries five-star Euro NCAP and ANCAP ratings, though these were awarded to the Maxus and LDV-badged MIFA 9 sold in Europe and Australia; both agencies note that ratings do not automatically extend to versions of a model sold in other markets, and the India-spec M9 has not been separately tested by Bharat NCAP.

The expansion comes as MG SELECT builds out its retail footprint, having opened its fifteenth Experience Centre, in Jaipur, taking its presence to fourteen cities. The brand has previously said it has become the second-largest luxury electric vehicle maker in India by volume, though the precise sales figures for the Cyberster and M9 to date have not been independently confirmed.
Battery-as-a-Service has drawn interest from manufacturers, including Mahindra, as a way to soften the high upfront cost of electric vehicles in a market still sensitive to sticker price. For MG, whose luxury push has leaned heavily on differentiated ownership models to compete against established premium brands, the scheme offers a way to make low-volume, high-specification electric vehicles more accessible without discounting the vehicle price itself. Rental costs mean buyers should weigh the model against expected usage before choosing it over outright purchase.
