Finding the balance between performance and affordability has always been the forte of 200cc bikes
The 200cc segment offers the perfect starting point for a balanced ride, providing riders versatility, performance and affordability. Here's a list of the most affordable 200cc bikes, catering to different riding styles and preferences.
The Hero Xpulse 200 4V is perhaps the only off-road-centric adventure motorcycle in the affordable space. Its 199.6cc single-cylinder air-/oil-cooled 4-valve engine produces 18.9 bhp and 17.35 Nm. While the bike's appearance may seem intimidating, its seat height of 823 mm is relatively manageable. The suspension is well-suited for rough roads, making it a versatile bike that can handle trails and daily city commutes quite well. However, maintaining triple-digit speeds on the highway can feel stressful on the engine and as a result, limits its overall usability.

It's the OG liquid-cooled Pulsar. The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 engine, a 199 cc liquid-cooled engine generating 24.13 bhp and 18.74 Nm, is based on the KTM 200 Duke, which makes it a perfect bike for people who want similar performance at a lower price tag. Recently, the company has made the bike more up-to-date by offering a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. This lets you manage calls and notifications and even get turn-by-navigation. It gets a new face with Z-shaped DRLs, which keep it fresh for 2024. Over the years, the hardware updates have seen the inclusion of a USD fork, which adds to the handling prowess of the Pulsar.
Hero's revival of the Karizma badge takes the form of the XMR. It sheds the older Karizma's look entirely, opting for a modern, sporty design with sharp lines and a large windscreen. The Hero Karizma XMR is powered by a 210cc engine, producing 25 bhp and 20 Nm, comparable to a 200cc bike despite its slightly larger displacement. Handling is another strong point, with the steel trellis frame making the XMR agile and confidence-inspiring in corners. Its ergonomics seem well-balanced for both city riding and touring. The feature list is impressive, including all-LED lighting, a digital instrument console with real-time fuel efficiency readouts, and Bluetooth connectivity for navigation and calls.
TVS Apache RTR 200 4V has a 197.75 cc engine which makes 20.5 bhp and 16.8 Nm, sadly it just gets a five-speed gearbox. A lot of first-in-segment features can be found here: such as turn-by-turn navigation to lean angle display, lap timer, crash alert and much more. There are also three riding modes (Sport, Urban, Eco) and a preload adjustable telescopic fork.

This Austrian-designed pocket rocket kickstarted the orange mania in India. Its 199cc liquid-cooled engine produces 24.5 bhp and 19 Nm, which are still pretty impressive given the stringent emission norms. The KTM 200 Duke features a lightweight body, exceptional chassis, and aggressive styling. While it lacks suspension adjustability, the stock settings are sufficient to deliver impressive handling. If you're a newcomer to biking and choose this 200cc bike, it will reveal the possibilities and limits of two-wheeled riding.
