This move could act as a reference point for other motorists on the road to avoid standing out of a sunroof in a moving car.
A motorist in Bengaluru has received a fine for allowing his children to pop out of the sunroof of his Kia Carens MPV. Bengaluru Traffic Police fined the motorist ₹1000 for ‘rash and negligent’ driving, as per a report by the Times of India (TOI).
A video of the incident was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by another motorist in Bengaluru stating, “This is why we Indians don’t deserve features like sunroof in cars. Brainless and senseless parents do this with their kids! That too in heavy traffic, where the risk of sudden braking is very high.”

This move could act as a reference point for other motorists on the road to avoid standing out of a sunroof in a moving car. Doing so could be injurious to the passenger’s health and could also be fatal as stones flying out from underneath the tyres of the vehicle in front could hit the face of the passenger standing out of the sunroof.
MN Anuchet, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), told TOI, “Letting vehicle occupants stick their heads out of the sunroof of a moving car is unsafe and dangerous. Though we have not heard of any major accidents in this regard, such a practice is illegal. Therefore, we are booking such car owners/drivers for rash and negligent driving with a fine of ₹1000."
