The JV aims to build a large-scale facility for battery recycling and recovery of key materials.

NAN GreenMet, founded by Vedanta vice chairman Navin Agarwal, has entered into a 50:50 joint venture (JV) with Belgium-based Silox to establish a lithium-ion battery recycling and critical mineral recovery facility in Andhra Pradesh.

The proposed project will be developed in two phases and is expected to reach a capacity of up to 40,000 metric tonnes per annum for processing spent batteries through shredding, along with 20,000 tonnes per annum for hydrometallurgical operations.

The joint venture, named NAN Silox GreenMet, will also evaluate downstream opportunities, including the production of cathode active materials and second-life applications for batteries in stationary energy storage systems.

The company said that land and applicable incentives for the facility have already been secured.
Silox specialises in hydrometallurgical processing of non-ferrous metal residues, and under the partnership, the two companies will develop and operate an industrial unit focused on processing end-of-life batteries.

The facility will handle shredding, beneficiation and refining processes aimed at recovering materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese.
