Mumbai-based Neuron Energy has further upped the ante of its lithium-ion battery packs by unveiling its next-generation battery packs. The new Gen 2 series has been designed specifically for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and light commercial vehicles. It will be commercially available pan India starting from July 2025 onwards.
Neuron Energy is making the battery pack architecture here, which has been designed keeping in mind Indian conditions. These durable packs feature high structural integrity with enhanced vibration protection. Neuron has also developed the battery management system (BMS), which as per the company improves cell balancing and therefore reduces maintenance needs. So, the battery cells will still need to be imported by the company that is availing these packs.

While the launch of a new battery pack is good news for the country, it still doesn’t address the rare earth magnet crisis that is currently unfolding in the country. It all unfolded when China decided to impose stricter administrative approval processes to secure permission over rare earth mineral imports. With Beijing controlling over 90% of the global rare earth magnet market, which gives it a disproportionate influence over critical global industries like electric mobility, defence, and renewable energy.
In response to that, the Government of India recently announced that it is planning to launch a production-linked-incentive scheme worth ₹3,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore to promote domestic manufacturing of rare earth minerals and derived magnets. India has also temporarily halted domestically mined rare earth exports to Japan, to redirect its strategic reserves towards domestic consumption in priority sectors. So while the nation races against time to secure its own supply of rare earth minerals, the launch of such new battery packs perfectly aligns with the nation’s developmental plans.
