This new cell debuted recently with the limited edition Bajaj Chetak 3201.
Bajaj has been pretty busy in 2024, after launching the world's first CNG motorcycle (Bajaj Freedom 125) and the biggest Pulsar (Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z) ever – the brand is now working on updating the country's third highest-selling electric scooter – the Chetak. Meanwhile, the Bajaj Chetak did gain the limited edition 3201 and a much more affordable 2901 variant a few weeks back. According to recent reports, Bajaj is working on updating the entire Chetak portfolio by equipping it with new battery cells procured from a different supplier.
What was interesting about the Bajaj Chetak 3201 was that despite packing the same 3.2 kWh battery pack as the current Chetak Premium, the new model boasted an impressive claimed range of 136 km, up from the Premium's 126 km.
The key to this increased range lay in the new battery cells, which are more efficient and energy-dense than those in the outgoing model. This allows for the range boost without increasing the overall battery capacity.
Prices are also expected to shoot up, and the upcoming range of Bajaj Chetak scooters might see a slight hike of ₹2,000-₹3,000 in the future. Currently, the top-spec Bajaj Chetak Premium variant is priced at ₹1.47 lakh (ex-showroom), and in this price range, it has the TVS iQube, which continues to be one of its biggest competitors.
