With bookings already open, here's what to expect from the 2024 BMW 5 Series.
BMW India is gearing up to introduce the next-generation BMW 5 Series tomorrow. Available exclusively in a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant, the new 5 Series will directly compete with the upcoming Mercedes E-Class LWB, slated for release later this year. With bookings already open, here's what to expect from the 2024 BMW 5 Series.
The new 5 Series continues BMW's trend of daring and unconventional design. The front fascia is dominated by a large signature kidney grille, adorned with golden vertical slats and illuminated for added emphasis. This bold design choice is flanked by sleek, angular headlights and a sharply contoured bumper, giving the car a distinctive and aggressive look.
From the side, the extended wheelbase is evident, emphasising the car's elongated profile. Buyers can choose between 18-inch ten-spoke rims or 19-inch fourteen-spoke rims, both shod with standard-profile tyres. The sloping roofline imparts a coupe-like silhouette, while the rear end features flat LED tail lamps and a sporty diffuser, reinforcing the car's dynamic aesthetics.
The interior of the 2024 5 Series has seen significant upgrades, focusing on minimalism and seamless integration. The dashboard incorporates AC vents almost invisibly, and two large screens dominate the cabin—one for the infotainment system and another for the digital driver's display. The extended wheelbase ensures ample legroom for rear passengers, enhancing comfort.
BMW has also committed to sustainability with this model, using eco-friendly materials for the seat upholstery, steering wheel, and door pads. This move aligns with a growing trend among luxury car manufacturers to incorporate environmentally conscious materials without compromising on luxury.
The 2024 BMW 5 Series is packed with advanced features. The centrepiece is a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, a heads-up display, and an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Surround sound system elevate the driving experience. Additional conveniences include type-C USB charging ports and a four-zone climate control system.
Safety has not been overlooked, with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, and a suite of electronic aids such as directly controlled wheel slip limitation, cornering brake assist, and trailer stability control.
At launch, the 2024 5 Series will be available in the 530Li M Sport variant. This model features a 2.0-litre twin-turbo petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, producing 205 bhp and 330 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, promising smooth and responsive performance. A diesel variant is anticipated in the future, likely offering a 2.0-liter engine with 194 bhp and 400 Nm of torque.
The new 5 Series is expected to be priced around ₹75 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This positions it squarely against other luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, and Volvo S90.
