The new 8th generation BMW 5 Series debuts new fascias, and a modern cabin with features carried over from the 7 Series.
Hot on the heels of introducing the new electric version of the executive sedan, BMW India is all set to launch the eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series next month on July 24. To be available in a Long Wheelbase variant only, the upcoming BMW 5 series will boast aesthetic elements and features we have already seen with the existing iX and 7 series.
The front fascia continues to be adorned by the brand’s signature adaptive twin LED headlights with Matrix High Beam, and high-beam assist BMW selective beam –- but it now looks sharper and slightly more aggressive than before. The headlights continue to flank the brand’s signature kidney grille which in turn is now an illuminated unit, just like the one we have seen on the BMW 7 Series. The rear now gains a new L-shaped LED light with an LED strip joining the two. Additionally, BMW claims that rear LED units also function as DRLs, just like the headlights.
Dimensionally too, the BMW 5 Series has grown in proportion. The new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase model is now 212 mm longer at 5175 mm, 32 mm wider at 1900 mm, and 41 mm taller at 1520 mm. Consequently, cabin space has also extended courtesy of the long wheelbase, and the 2024 BMW 5 Series now has a 3105 mm wheelbase, which is 130 mm longer than before.
Speaking of the cabin, the new eight-generation BMW 5 Series features several tech innovations and design features that the brand has already debuted with the all-new BMW 7 Series and BMW iX. As part of that shared technology, the BMW 5 Series now also boasts of the 14.3-inch Curved Display on the dashboard, plus it also gets the BMW Interaction bar which has been directly lifted off from the 7 series.
Moving on, the steering wheel design in the 5 series is also all-new, along with that the seats and the sunroof units are also brand new equipment here. The sunroof gets a unique body-mounted module design which has helped improve the viewing area by almost 90 per cent. In addition to the above, BMW has equipped 18 speakers from Bowers and Wilkins, two USB C-ports as standard as well.
More details about its powertrains and delivery date will be revealed on July 24. However, for reference, the BMW 5 Series in global markets is available with an inline-4 engine. Now, BMW will retain this engine, but whether they retain the same specifications or not, remains to be seen.
