BMW India is set to launch the much-anticipated M4 CS on October 4, 204. The new model represents the pinnacle of the mid-cycle update for BMW’s 4-Series, combining enhanced performance, lightweight construction, and cutting-edge technology. Positioned between the M4 Competition and the ultra-limited M4 CSL, the M4 CS promises to offer enthusiasts a blend of dynamic driving, track-ready capabilities, and road comfort. Expect the new BMW M4 CS to carry a premium over the M4 Competition which currently retails at ₹1.53 crore (ex-showroom, India).
Under the hood, the M4 CS is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine, a familiar powerhouse for BMW M aficionados. This engine, tuned to deliver 535 bhp, is identical to that of the M4 CSL, offering more power than the regular M4 Competition model. With its 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel-drive system (AWD), the M4 CS ensures a thrilling driving experience. The AWD system features a rear-wheel bias, which can be further intensified in 4WD Sport mode, delivering a more traditional rear-wheel-drive feel.
For those purists who want an undiluted rear-wheel-drive experience, the system allows the driver to direct all power to the rear wheels. BMW claims the M4 CS can rocket from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 303 kmph. The M4 CS has also showcased its performance credentials on the legendary Nürburgring, clocking a lap time of 7:21.99.
BMW has meticulously focused on reducing the car’s weight to enhance its performance. Using carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for key components such as the hood, roof, front splitter, side mirror caps, and rear spoiler, the M4 CS is approximately 20 kg lighter than the M4 Competition. Inside the cabin, the use of carbon fibre extends to the standard bucket seats, steering wheel, and shift paddles, ensuring a sporty, race-focused feel without sacrificing comfort.
Further weight-saving measures include a titanium muffler, which not only reduces weight but also gives the exhaust system a more distinctive sound. The overall package results in a car that is lighter, faster, and more agile compared to its Competition variant.
For improved handling, BMW has equipped the M4 CS with a variety of chassis upgrades. A front strut brace enhances torsional rigidity, while the uprated braking system offers the option of carbon-ceramic rotors for serious track use. The car rides on forged wheels, with 19-inch rims at the front and 20-inch rims at the rear, shod in performance tyres as standard. For those looking to take the M4 CS to the track, BMW also offers track-ready tyres as a no-cost option.
The suspension features adaptive dampers, and BMW has developed unique settings for the car’s wheel camber and anti-roll bars. These fine-tuned enhancements help the M4 CS maintain balance and stability during aggressive cornering or high-speed manoeuvres, ensuring it remains composed both on the road and the track.
Visually, the M4 CS carries updates in line with the rest of the 4-Series range, particularly in its lighting setup. The headlights feature reworked internal designs, with the daytime running lights now boasting a yellow hue—an homage to BMW’s motorsport heritage.
Inside, the M4 CS offers a blend of luxury and race-inspired elements. The cabin features extensive use of carbon fibre, while the bucket seats are upholstered in Merino leather for comfort. The flat-bottom sport steering wheel, wrapped in Alcantara, enhances the driver’s tactile connection with the car.
The digital screens inside the car offer M4 CS-specific graphics, reinforcing the car’s exclusivity. Additional touches include "M4 CS" sill plates and a comprehensive suite of tech features. Standard on the M4 CS is the M Drive Professional package, which includes an M Drift Analyser and M lap timer—tools designed to help drivers fine-tune their performance and analyse their track data. The system also comes with M Traction Control, offering 10 levels of adjustability, as well as Road, Sport, and Track driving modes.
