These changes, introduced by the NPCI aim to streamline the toll collection process and minimise congestion at toll booths.
Starting August 1, a new set of rules governing the use of FASTag for toll payments will come into force. These changes, introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), aim to streamline the toll collection process and minimise congestion at toll booths. One of the most significant updates includes the mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements for FASTag users.
The NPCI's updated guidelines mandate several compliance measures, particularly focusing on KYC processes. Here are the key points vehicle owners and FASTag providers need to be aware of:
1. Replacement of Outdated FASTags: FASTags that have been in use for over five years must be replaced by October 31, 2024. This ensures that all toll tags in circulation are up-to-date with the latest technology and security features.
2. KYC Update Requirements: FASTags that are three to five years old require a KYC update. This step is crucial to maintain accurate records and enhance the security of transactions. Vehicle owners must complete this process by October 31, 2024.
3. Linking Vehicle Details: It is now mandatory to link the vehicle registration number and chassis number with the FASTag. For newly purchased vehicles, the registration number must be updated within 90 days.
4. Database Verification: FASTag providers are required to verify their databases to ensure all information is accurate and up-to-date. This includes uploading clear photos of the car’s front and side, ensuring proper identification of the vehicle.
5. Mobile Number Linkage: Each FASTag must be linked to a mobile number. This linkage is essential for notifications, alerts, and other communication related to toll payments and account management.
6. Compliance Deadline: All vehicle owners must ensure their KYC requirements are fulfilled by October 31, 2024. This deadline provides ample time for users to comply with the new regulations and avoid any disruptions in their toll payments.
