Jawa's upcoming roadster will have a distinct sporty appeal yet be mechanically similar.
Classic Legends-owned Jawa is gearing up to launch a new iteration of its 42 motorcycles. The company recently released a teaser that offers us a glimpse into the design and hardware of the upcoming bike.
The teaser revealed a classic yet sporty aesthetic for the new Jawa 42. Key design elements include a redesigned narrow seat, a new bracket next to the headlight, a tear-drop fuel tank, wide handlebars, and upswept twin exhausts. The rider's position suggests a slightly forward-leaning stance, hinting at a sportier character. The multis-poke alloy wheels seem to have got a new finish.
On the hardware front, not all will be new. While the new Jawa 42 is expected to feature a new single-piece handlebar. The telescopic front fork and dual rear shocks setup will remain the same. Disc brakes on both ends will be a standard fitment and so will be dual-channel ABS. It’s likely that the new Jawa 42 variant will run on fatter tyres than the standard bike.
As for its heart, the upcoming Jawa 42 is expected to carry Jawa-Yezdi's new Alpha-II engine forward. The 334cc liquid-cooled engine produces 29.8 bhp. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.
The new Jawa 42 is poised to compete with the recently launched Royal Enfield Hunter 350. Pricing is expected to be around the Rs 2.20 lakh mark (ex-showroom), positioning the Jawa 42 as a compelling option in the retro-modern motorcycle segment. The launch is scheduled for tomorrow, September 3, and more details about the Jawa 42 will be revealed soon.
