The new Maruti Suzuki Swift will be manufactured at the Gujarat plant.
Maruti Suzuki India has launched the 4th generation of the Swift in India and prices begin at Rs. 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom India). The company announced that it has already received 10,000 bookings in the last 1 week. There has been a lot of anticipation about this product and the numbers speak of the demand. The Swift will be manufactured at the company’s Gujarat plant and there are a lot of expectations from it.

With the kind of response for the Swift, it’s clear that there still is demand for hatchbacks in the country. The growth of the subcompact SUV segment in India has overshadowed the hatchback segment and there have been speculations about how it will be received.
While it will take some time to know how much of these bookings get converted into actual sales, going by past performances, Swift should be able to sail through and grow its market share. Currently, Maruti Suzuki holds 62 per cent market share in the hatchback segment that includes the Swift, Baleno and Ignis, which makes it a clear front runner and the new-gen car is expected to expand this even further.
Maruti Suzuki is offering the Swift with a new Z-Series 1.2-litre petrol engine which churns out 80 bhp, but we feel, a more powerful engine would have made things a little more interesting. Maruti Suzuki has upped the ante when it comes to safety in the car and says that 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, and three-point seat belts on all seats are now part of standard features.
