Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the production-spec CLA will make its world premiere on March 13, following its debut as a concept at the 2023 Munich Motor Show and later at the 2025 Auto Expo in India. The new CLA is based on the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) and marks the beginning of a new generation of entry-level luxury models from the German automaker.
Camouflaged test models have hinted at wraparound LED headlamps featuring a three-pointed star-like daytime running light signature. A full-width light bar above the grille and a reimagined Mercedes-Benz grille are also expected. The rear end mirrors the front, incorporating an LED light bar connecting the tail lamps, also with a star-like signature. The overall design remains in line with the coupe-like silhouette of its predecessor, with a low-slung stance and prominent haunches.
While the interior of the production-spec CLA has not been revealed, the concept model previewed a “Superscreen” setup, consisting of three seamlessly connected screens. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that this feature will be carried over to the final version. Additionally, the CLA will debut the brand’s new MB.OS operating system, which includes a chip-to-cloud architecture and an AI-enabled virtual assistant.
The vehicle will be equipped with Level-2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities, utilizing LiDAR sensors. Other notable features include over-the-air update compatibility and an expansive glass roof.
The new CLA has been developed as an electric-first vehicle, with entry-level variants featuring a rear-mounted electric motor paired with a two-speed transmission. Higher-performance 4Matic models will include an additional single-speed motor on the front axle. The powertrain has been derived from Mercedes' Vision EQXX concept, with the automaker referring to the CLA as “the one-litre car of the electric age.”
The battery system operates at 800 V, allowing for ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 320 kW. Mercedes-Benz claims the CLA can recover 300 km of range in just 10 minutes. Efficiency figures are projected at 12 kWh/100 km, with an estimated range of approximately 750 km on a full charge.
At a later stage, Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce a 1.5-litre four-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol variant, which will be available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
With the CLA’s official unveiling just days away, further details, including pricing and market availability, are expected to be revealed during its premiere.
