Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the new-generation version of its popular E-Class sedan in India today. The E-Class has long been a staple in the luxury sedan segment and with this new model, Mercedes-Benz India aims to elevate the E-Class experience while retaining the qualities that have made it a favourite over the years.
At first glance, the design of the 2024 E-Class LWB seems to follow the overall styling cues of the outgoing model, but with subtle and significant updates. The front fascia now sports a larger grille adorned with miniature tri-pointed star inserts, a signature touch that emphasises the Mercedes-Benz brand identity. This grille is surrounded by chrome elements, adding a touch of luxury to the sedan’s presence. The LED headlights have been redesigned to be sleeker, giving the front end a sharper and more modern look.
Moving to the side, the 2024 E-Class rides on newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels, and while the previous model already looked substantial on Indian roads, the new version is slightly longer by 17 mm. One of the standout features is the flush-fitting door handles that electrically pop out when needed, further enhancing the sedan's sleek profile.
At the rear, the LED tail lamps have been restyled and now feature tri-pointed star elements, a design choice that ties in with the front grille for a cohesive look. The bumper also receives minor tweaks, with additional chrome accents providing contrast against the overall exterior design. Mercedes-Benz will offer the 2024 E-Class in five distinct colour choices: Obsidian Black, High Tech Silver, Graphite Grey, Polar White, and Nautic Blue.
While the exterior updates are subtle, the interior of the 2024 E-Class has undergone more significant changes. One of the most notable upgrades is the introduction of a three-display layout. This includes a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, and a separate 12.3-inch entertainment screen for the front passenger. This tech-heavy dashboard is designed to provide both driver and passenger with a premium experience.
Soft-touch materials are generously used throughout the cabin, giving it a luxurious feel. One of the highlights is the 64-colour ambient lighting system that illuminates various parts of the interior, including the dashboard and door trims, enhancing the overall cabin ambience.
Other high-end features include four-zone climate control, ensuring personalised comfort for each passenger. The panoramic sunroof adds an open-air feel to the cabin, while dual wireless phone chargers, one at the front and one at the rear, cater to the tech-savvy user. The powered front seats come with a memory function, and the rear passengers will appreciate the powered tailgate for added convenience. Music lovers will enjoy the 730W 17-speaker Burmester 4D sound system, which promises an immersive audio experience.
Mercedes-Benz has not skimped on safety in the 2024 E-Class. The sedan is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera for enhanced visibility in tight spots. It also includes a tyre pressure monitoring system for added safety on the road.
The 2024 E-Class is also equipped with advanced driver assistance features. These include lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, all designed to improve safety and reduce driver fatigue on long journeys.
Under the hood, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be offered with two engine options, both four-cylinder units: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. Both engines come equipped with mild-hybrid technology, which provides an additional boost of 27 bhp for up to 30 seconds, improving performance during acceleration. This system is designed to enhance fuel efficiency as well as provide a smoother driving experience. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission.
However, with the introduction of this new model, Mercedes-Benz is bidding farewell to the six-cylinder engine that was available in the previous generation, a move likely aimed at improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
While the exact pricing will be revealed at the launch event, it is expected that the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be priced around ₹80 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing will place it in direct competition with other luxury sedans in its segment, such as the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6, both of which have a strong presence in the market.
