The new bike could be a special edition based on the Triumph Speed 400.
While we wait for the third bike to make its debut under the Triumph 400cc family in the form of the Thruxton 400, the British brand has sprung a surprise. Triumph has sent out an invite for an upcoming bike and it isn’t the cafe racer as we had expected. The new Triumph 400cc bike will make its India debut on September 17. Going by the teaser, the new Triumph bike looks like a new variant of the Speed 400 or even an updated version of the same bike.
This comes as a surprise as the Speed 400 has been in the Indian market for just over a year and had recently received a ₹10,000 price cut and retails for ₹2.23 lakh (ex-showroom). Our guess is that it could be a special variant to celebrate a sales landmark and might get visual updates to make it look unique. From the teaser pic, we can see the fuel tank shape, the off-set fuel filler cap, the bar-end mirrors are the same as the one found on the Speed 400. We look forward to more teasers prior to the launch to dig out more details of the upcoming Triumph bike.
The Triumph Speed 400 has been designed by the British brand but is manufactured by Bajaj Auto at its Chakan 2 plant on the outskirts of Pune. Powering it is a 398cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled mill generating 38 bhp @ 8000 rpm and 37.5 Nm @ 6500 rpm. A 6-speed gearbox takes care of transmission duties and it comes with a slipper clutch. The tubular frame is suspended on a USD fork and a monoshock unit. The bike sports a semi-digital instrument console with an analogue speedometer. In terms of features, the Triumph Speed 400 gets a traction control system, dual-channel ABS but misses out on navigation. The Triumph Speed 400 competes against the Jawa 42 FJ, Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and the Hero Mavrick X440.
