Next-Generation Hyundai Kona Electric Leaked

While the Kona Electric wasn’t particularly successful in India, the compact SUV has been doing well in many global markets. Now, the next-generation version of the Kona has been leaked undisguised before its official global launch.

In a big departure from its predecessor's smooth, hatchback-like proportions, the leaked next-generation Kona adopts a taller, boxier stance. Influenced by Hyundai’s off-road-focused Crater Concept unveiled in North America, the design incorporates sharply sculpted surfacing, a clamshell bonnet, pixelated LED light signatures inspired by the IONIQ family, and pronounced wheel arch cladding.

While the outgoing model featured rounded surfaces, the upcoming version leans heavily into a rugged SUV identity. The stance appears visually wider and taller, targeted at providing enhanced ground clearance and improved cabin headroom.

Globally, Hyundai will continue to offer the Kona on a flexible multi-powertrain platform accommodating pure electric (EV), hybrid (HEV), and petrol (ICE) setups. But, it is quite unlikely that the Kona Electric will return to India, since the Creta Electric has taken its place.
