Since its launch in 2008, Hyundai Motor India has sold over 1.5 million units of the popular i20 hatchback.
Hyundai has announced that the i20 has officially surpassed the 1.5 million (15 lakh) cumulative sales mark in the Indian market. First introduced in 2008, the nameplate has evolved across three generations, cementing its position as a primary volume driver for the South Korean automaker in India.
The i20 is widely credited with establishing and popularising the premium hatchback segment in India by bringing upper-segment technology, safety, and equipment to the compact space. Over its nearly two-decade production run, the lineup has expanded to include specialised derivatives such as the motorsport-inspired i20 N Line and the blacked-out i20 Knight Edition.

In its standard guise, the hatchback is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 82 bhp with the five-speed manual gearbox and 87 bhp when paired with the Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). For buyers seeking higher performance, the i20 N Line features a 1.0-litre Turbo GDi petrol engine generating 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
It is worth noting that the fourth-gen Hyundai i20 has already debuted globally. It remains to be seen when the new model makes it to our market.
