Nissan is set to introduce a CNG-powered version of its entry-level subcompact SUV, the Magnite, in April, according to our sources. The move comes after the Renault Kiger — which shares its platform and powertrain with the Magnite — received a similar CNG option in February this year, along with Renault's Kwid and Triber models.

The upcoming Magnite CNG will be offered exclusively with the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a manual transmission. The turbocharged variant will not be included in this CNG rollout. Fuel efficiency for the Magnite CNG is expected to range between 18 to 22 km per kg, although official figures and performance specifications, including power and torque output in CNG mode, have not yet been released.
Like its Renault counterpart, the Magnite's CNG kit will be offered as an accessory at the dealership level. The kits will be supplied by the Uno Minda Group, which also supplies the retrofit systems for Renault’s dealer network. Pricing has not been officially confirmed, but based on the ₹79,500 premium seen on the Kiger CNG, a similar figure is anticipated for the Magnite.
Warranty support will remain intact. The vehicle will continue to carry Nissan’s standard warranty of three years or 1,00,000 km, whichever comes first. In addition, the CNG kit itself will be backed by a one-year warranty provided by the dealership. Dealerships will also handle the necessary updates to the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) to reflect the fuel type modification, ensuring regulatory compliance.
It is not yet confirmed whether the CNG option will be available across all variants of the Magnite or limited to select trims. On the Kiger, the CNG kit is currently offered only on specific models.
The decision to offer a CNG option comes amid rising demand for alternative fuel vehicles, driven largely by the high cost of petrol and diesel. CNG passenger vehicle sales in India reached 7,15,213 units in calendar year 2024, representing a 35 per cent year-on-year increase, according to Vahan portal data.
