The upcoming X-Trail will be Nissan’s second offering in India after the Magnite.
As Nissan India gears up for the launch of the X-Trail in India, the Japanese brand has been warming up to the occasion by releasing several teasers. While the first gave us a glimpse of the upcoming SUV’s grille design, the latest teaser video delves a bit deeper and shows the rear fender, alloy wheel design, and of course that front fascia by making the grille prominent.
While we are still waiting for an official launch date, we know that the company is all set to launch the car this month itself. This will offer Nissan India a chance to revitalise its foothold in the country, especially in the premium SUV segment which is currently populated by the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, and the Hyundai Tucson.
Moreover, going by the teaser images Nissan India is expected to bring the pre-facelift X-Trail to India. The latter was launched earlier this year in the American market with the moniker Rogue. As for the India-spec X-Trail, it will be the fourth generation model, which itself is a looker. Right from its aggressive and bulky design to that feature-rich cabin which runs a Google-based software integration that eliminates the need for Android Auto.
Built on the CMF-C platform, in global markets, the Nissan X-Trail is available with the choice of two powertrain options – 2.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. We expect the latter to come to India, which produces quite the respectable 201 bhp and 305 Nm. This mill also comes paired with Nissan’s innovative e-Power technology wherein the engine works as a generator and the wheels are powered by purely by electric energy, just aiding for more efficiency and better mileage figures. This engine comes paired to Nissan’s Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo) technology, an X-Tronic CVT gearbox, and an all-wheel drive option or two-wheel drive option.
Nissan will bring the X-Trail via the CBU route, so we expect it to command quite the premium price tag. Somewhere between ₹30-₹40 lakh is our estimate, which should position it quite competitively in this segment.
