CMF Phone 1 set to be Nothing's first phone under its CMF sub-brand.
After months of rumours and leaks, Nothing has officially confirmed it will launch the CMF Phone 1 as the first smartphone under its CMF sub-brand. In a post on X, the company's CEO Carl Pei revealed the name of the upcoming device and teased that it will be "coming soon".
The teaser image shared by Nothing shows an orange faux-leather rear panel with a circular dial in the corner, similar to the one seen on the CMF Neckband Pro earbuds. However, it remains to be seen whether the dial will serve the same purpose as a lanyard holder or have a different function on the smartphone.
Based on previous leaks, the CMF Phone 1 is expected to feature a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED display, dual rear cameras with a 50MP primary sensor, a 16MP front camera, a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chip, up to 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage. It may also pack a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging.
Notably, the CMF Phone 1 is not rumoured to include the iconic Glyph interface that has become synonymous with Nothing's other smartphones, like the Phone (1) and Phone (2). Instead, as teased by the company earlier, it could come with a replaceable plastic back and Nothing Lock for accessory add-ons.
The first device under Nothing's new CMF sub-brand is likely aimed at being an affordable entry-level offering priced around Rs. 20,000-23,000 ($249-$279). It is expected to launch globally in July 2024, but availability in India has yet to be confirmed.
With the CMF Phone 1, Nothing looks to leverage its innovation and design-focused approaches seen in products like the Phone (1) to introduce new users to its ecosystem. This also comes after Pei recently revealed that the next flagship, the Nothing Phone (3), will not arrive until 2025.
