Bookings for the Ola Roadster X are still ongoing for just a nominal amount of ₹999.
Ola’s debut electric motorcycle, the Roadster X, will start arriving in dealerships by the end of this week, the brand confirmed via its social media handle. Deliveries will commence after more than a month the bikes started to roll off the manufacturing line. This delay can be partly due to the fact that several Ola showrooms were being raided due to invalid trade certificates, and in some cases no certificates at all. These new dealerships opened in quick succession to create a record last year, but things didn’t pan out the way the electric mobility company’s CEO had anticipated.
As for the Ola Roadster X, it will be available in three variants differentiated by three different battery packs. The base variant is priced at ₹84,999 and it is powered by a 2.5 kWh battery that is good for a claimed range of 140 km. The mid-spec variant gets a slightly bigger battery at 3.5 kWh that can do a claimed range of 196 km and will cost you ₹1,04,999. The top-spec variant gets the biggest battery of all at 4.5 kWh that can do 252 km of claimed range and it will set you back by ₹1,24,999 (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
There will be more iterations of the Roadster too in the future, namely, Roadster and Roadster Pro. The latter will even feature the largest battery pack ever fitted on a India-made electric bike at 16 kWh, which is supposed to have a claimed range of 579 km, even more than the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2.
Ola’s new range of commuter motorcycles should help break the spell of controversies that Ola has found itself embroiled in for the longest time. In the process, its sales should also improve further, wherein Ola is second in the EV race, surpassed by TVS and ahead of Bajaj Auto. Will Ola’s reputation also improve from here on, remains to be seen.
