Range Rover Unveils GT, Its First Fully Electric Model, Ahead of Global Launch

Range Rover has confirmed a fifth model line, the Range Rover GT, marking the brand's first fully electric vehicle and its most significant architectural shift in years. The company revealed early details of the car's interior and design direction on Wednesday, alongside images of camouflaged prototypes undergoing final testing, ahead of a full reveal expected later this year.

The GT will be built on Jaguar Land Rover's new Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform at the company's Halewood plant in the UK, where it will be produced alongside existing petrol and hybrid models. It will launch as a battery-electric vehicle, with a hybrid variant planned for later in its lifecycle — a sequencing that reflects the cautious pace at which luxury manufacturers are introducing electric-only architectures into markets where charging infrastructure and buyer confidence still vary widely.

Inside, the cabin moves away from Range Rover's traditional instrument layout in favour of a single, wide screen paired with a driver display, replacing the conventional cluster. A concealed air vent runs the width of the dashboard, continuing a design cue long associated with the brand, while a woven textile finish across the fascia integrates hidden speakers into a single, uninterrupted surface. Range Rover said the layout was designed to reduce visual and acoustic clutter, with more functions accessible through voice control. The company also cited class-leading second-row legroom as a defining feature of the new cabin.

Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover, described the GT as reinterpreting the grand-tourer formula for an electrified platform, combining long-distance comfort with the marque's traditional all-terrain ability — attributes he said no conventional GT rival could match. The car's camouflage wrap, designed in-house, draws on the topography around the Gaydon design and engineering centre, rendered in a gold pattern intended to hint at the model's touring character and coupé-like silhouette.

For India, the announcement carries weight beyond a single new model. Range Rover has built one of the strongest followings for a luxury nameplate in the country, and JLR India has steadily expanded its retail footprint as demand for premium SUVs has grown faster than the broader passenger vehicle market. An electric Range Rover, even one likely to arrive in India well after its European debut, would test how far affluent Indian buyers are willing to move from petrol and diesel variants that have defined the brand's presence here. High import duties and the nascent state of ultra-luxury EV charging infrastructure mean any local rollout will almost certainly follow a phased, CBU-first approach, as has been the case with other electric models from the JLR stable.

No pricing, range or performance figures have been disclosed. Range Rover said further details, including confirmation of markets and timelines, would follow later in the year.
