The Redmi A3's main selling point is its design.
Xiaomi has launched its latest low-cost Android smartphone, the Redmi A3. The company promises a premium design and a few modern conveniences. Among its noteworthy selling points are its 6.71-inch HD+ (720 x 1650-pixel) 90Hz display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch protection, and 10W USB Type-C charging. The Redmi A3 is available in three finishes: Forest Green with a leather-like rear panel, and Lake Blue and Midnight Black with glass finishes.
The Redmi A3 is priced starting at Rs. 7,299 for 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The variant with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage costs Rs. 8,299, and the top-end option with 6GB of RAM and the same 128GB of storage is priced at Rs. 9,299 in India. The company will start taking orders on February 23 on its own website as well as on Flipkart and through authorised retail partners. At the time of launch, Xiaomi is offering a discount of Rs. 300 on exchanging an older device, and buyers can also pick up a Redmi Watch 2 Lite for Rs. 1,499 as opposed to its regular price of Rs. 4,999.
Xiaomi has gone with the entry-level MediaTek Helio G36 SoC for this phone. You also get an 8-megapixel primary rear camera with an LED flash, and an unspecified secondary rear camera. There’s a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies, in a waterdrop-style screen notch. Film-inspired filters in the camera app can give photos a vintage look.
The battery capacity is 5000mAh, and a 10W charger is included in the box. The Redmi A3 also has a 3.5mm headset socket, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a dedicated microSD slot in addition to two nano-SIM slots. It has a single mono speaker. The device supports dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, and 4G LTE cellular connectivity. Xiaomi’s online listing states that the device ships with Android 14.
The Midnight Black and Lake Blue versions weigh 199g thanks to their glass rear panels, but the Forest Green option comes in at 193g. All three are 8.32mm thick. Xiaomi says the Redmi A3 is resistant to accidental water splashes, but it does not have a formal IP certification.
