Renault Duster Review 9.webp

For employees and customers, Renault has stated there will be no disruption to day-to-day operations, with jobs, dealer and supplier relationships, and service commitments remaining unchanged.

Renault Group India has moved the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) seeking approval for a structural realignment of its India business, in a move that underlines a deeper manufacturing and export play rather than any retreat from the market.

Under the proposed plan, powertrain manufacturing will be carved out as a dedicated entity within Renault Group India, while vehicle manufacturing and sales will be consolidated into an integrated operations unit.  The company says the change is designed to create “clearer and more focused operating structures” to suit the different industrial and commercial needs of these businesses.

Crucially for employees and customers, Renault has stated there will be no disruption to day-to-day operations, with jobs, dealer and supplier relationships, and service commitments remaining unchanged.  Business is expected to continue “as usual” while the tribunal process runs its course.

The realignment is closely tied to Renault’s ambition of using India as a major manufacturing and export base, with a target of generating up to €2 billion in annual exports from the country by 2030.  Chennai, where Renault fully took over its former alliance plant with Nissan in 2025, has already emerged as a nerve centre in the French carmaker’s global strategy.

Industry executives see the move as the next logical step after Renault consolidated ownership of its Chennai facility and expanded engineering and design capabilities around it.  By separating powertrains from vehicle and retail operations, Renault can chase efficiency in manufacturing while sharpening its go-to-market strategy in a highly competitive Indian passenger vehicle space.

For Indian buyers, the message is that Renault is doubling down on India as both a key domestic market and a cost-competitive export hub, even as it prepares a new product and powertrain offensive for the coming decade.
