The sight of the stranded Rolls-Royce Ghost has received quite the flak from netizens.
In a scene that has left car enthusiasts aghast, a Rolls-Royce Ghost was spotted stranded on a waterlogged street in Delhi last week, unable to navigate the flood waters that smaller, less luxurious vehicles seemed to handle with ease.
The incident, captured on video by a passing motorist and shared on Instagram by user Abhishek Bhai (@donia_vlogs97), shows the black Ghost – a pinnacle of automotive luxury – sitting helplessly with its hazard lights blinking. The stark contrast of this multi crore marvel rendered immobile while more modest vehicles like Maruti Suzuki's cruised by has sparked a flurry of reactions online.
The older model Ghost, launched around 2009-2010 with a price tag of approximately ₹2.5 crore, found itself at the mercy of Delhi's notorious monsoon flooding. Some viewers speculated that the car's sophisticated electronics might have triggered a safety shutdown to protect its valuable components from water damage.
The current-gen Rolls-Royce commands a price range of Rs 6.95 crore to Rs 7.95 crore (ex-showroom). At its heart lies a formidable 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering an impressive 571 bhp and 850 Nm of torque. This powerplant is mated to a refined ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, enabling both Ghost trims to accelerate from 0-100kmph in a mere 4.8 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 kmph.
The Ghost's performance is further enhanced by its all-wheel drive system. Inside, occupants are treated to a host of cutting-edge features, including a digital driver display, a powerful 1300W audio system, a head-up display, an illuminated dashboard, and a state-of-the-art infotainment system. In the ultra-luxury sedan segment, the Ghost faces competition from the likes of the Bentley Flying Spur and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
