The Classic 650 will be the fifth bike in Royal Enfield’s 650 cc portfolio.
One of the big ticket launches for 2024 is that of the new Classic 650. For Royal Enfield, the Classic range is the important brand in its portfolio as it not only contributes the lion's share of its sales but also the bike that helped it from going bankrupt. So the Classic 650 is a very crucial product for RE. The bike has been spotted on Indian roads on numerous occasions in the past and recently a production-version of the same was spotted in the UK. According to our sources, the Royal Enfield Classic 650 is likely to make its global debut at the upcoming EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy on November 5. As for its India launch a safe bet would be the 2024 Motoverse (formerly Ridermania) event in Goa scheduled from November 22-24 in Goa.
Royal Enfield had launched the new Himalayan 450 at the 2023 Motoverse. Now coming back to the Classic 650, the styling of the bike, as expected, has been based on the Classic 350. Despite its larger dimensions, the silhouette of the bike is very similar to its 350cc sibling. From the production-spec bike spotted in the UK, we can also confirm that it will be offered in dual-tone finish, another interesting bit is the chrome finish on the engine case which enhances its retro charm further.
Powering it will be the familiar 650 cc, parallel-twin engine that we have seen on Interceptor 650 and other offerings from the brand. The motor is rated at 47 bhp at 7250 rpm and 52.3 Nm at 5650 rpm. We hope the tune of the engine is more chill and soothing to better suit the relaxed DNA of the Classic 650. The 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch will remain unchanged. Features weren’t the forte of the Classic 350 and the same is expected on the upcoming Royal Enfield bike, as it will get a semi-digital instrument cluster and a tripper pod for turn-by-turn navigation.
Pricing and other details will be revealed post its launch, but we expect the Classic 650 to be priced between ₹3.30 to 3.60 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will compete against the BSA Gold Star 650.
